The founding chair of the UMD Department of Computer Science and strong advocate for human rights for scientists worldwide passed away on April 9, 2021.

The three-day workshop aimed specifically toward Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) will bring together about 50 students from across the U.S. who will engage in meaningful computing research with UMD faculty and graduate students.

The Advanced Genomic Technologies Core, part of the Brain and Behavior Institute, will advance high-throughput and advanced large-scale genomics research, and will greatly improve the university’s capabilities in neuroscience and other life sciences.

The weekly talks will feature experts in artificial intelligence, machine learning and theoretical computer science.

Presentations at the Feb. 26 event involved projects based in virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality and immersive spaces.
