Biography:
Vanessa Frias-Martinez is an associate professor in the College of Information with an appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. She is director of the Computational Linguistics and Information Processing (CLIP) Lab.
Frias-Martinez’s research focuses on data-driven behavioral modeling and spatio-temporal data mining using large-scale data to study human mobility, social networks and the physical environment. She develops methodologies to predict human behaviors and tools for decision-making in areas like poverty, natural disasters and urban planning.
