Director's Message to UMIACS

Another successful year is ending. And while tradition might dictate that I provide a lengthy list of the institute’s accolades and accomplishments for the past 12 months, most of you know that I can be nonconformist at times.

What I will say, is that I believe strongly in our mission and the impact that our work has. We’ve been tasked with a unique opportunity—to utilize a team-based interdisciplinary approach, backed by the most powerful computational resources, to take on grand challenges in science and society.

Our success, you can see specific examples in our newsfeed, is a group effort. Every member of the UMIACS team—faculty, students and staff—plays an integral role in defining who we are and where we’re headed.

I want to thank each one of you for the outstanding work you have done in 2023. And I hope the new year will bring continued success, both on the personal and professional level, to every member of our research community.
