Varshney Featured in Forbes Article About Human-Like Robots

Amitabh Varshney, director of UMIACS and a professor of computer science, is featured in a Forbes article about how robots are quickly advancing and starting to perform more human jobs and tasks.

Varshney is exploring how the brain’s cortex processes visuals and language and how it produces a coherent concept of the world. He conducts experiments to understand how people judge sound, light and expressions and notices the movement of the eyes.

“The highest bandwidth intelligence comes from our eyes. Visualization is the key mode of communications and other modalities are less important, like speech, language and gestures,” Varshney says.
