Resnik Appointed to FiscalNote Advisory Board
Philip Resnik, a professor of linguistics with an appointment in UMIACS, was recently appointed to the FiscalNote Advisory Board.
FiscalNote is a provider of a real-time legal analytics platform that tracks, analyzes and forecasts legal and policy data.
Resnik specializes in computational approaches to social science, is an expert in natural language processing and is widely recognized as one of the researchers who helped bring data-driven approaches to the field. His approach emphasizes finding the right balance between data-driven analysis and expert knowledge in computational modeling.
Tim Hwang, co-founder and CEO of FiscalNote, says Resnik will be a valuable addition to the company's board of advisors. He is its tenth member.
“Dr. Resnik’s more than 25 years of expertise in natural language processing and data analysis brings an invaluable resource to FiscalNote,” he says. “We look forward to gaining his unique insight and learning from his extensive knowledge of computational linguistics.”
Outside academia, Resnik is a serial entrepreneur, with experience that includes being a technical co-founder of CodeRyte (clinical natural language processing, acquired in 2012 by 3M), lead scientist for Converseon (spearheading development of their sentiment analysis platform, now marketed as ConveyAPI), and founder of React Labs, which is commercializing his research on scalable real-time response measurement and engagement using mobile devices.
“I am thrilled to join the FiscalNote advisory board,” says Resnik. “I’m very excited by the company’s vision of identifying a concrete problem and making real progress with innovative and useful technical solutions."
