France, October 2006 – Congratulations to Yi Li, a UMIACS/ECE graduate student who was awarded best student paper at the 2006 International Workshop on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (IWFHR).  His paper entitled “A New Algorithm for Detecting Text Line in Handwritten Documents” with Yefeng Zheng, David Doermann and Stefan Jaeger, addresses challenging problems of mixed mode multilingual documents”.  IWFHR is the fields premier handwriting conference, attracting over 100 international attendees bi-annually.
