Project Objective: To bring additional functionality to the Video Frame Ranking Toolbox (FRT) whose development started in Phase I of this project, and to evaluate its performance using the ground truth obtained by user study.

Background: In Phase I we have developed FRT comprising of two main packages, a Feature Vector Package and a Curve Simplification Package, performing the two filtering steps required to produce a frame ranking for input video. We have also developed Windows and Java based interface to demonstrate and test the use of FRT on stored video clips.

Status:

FRT is upgraded to:

- combine color and motion based ranking technique

- produce video summarization based on luminance (Y only)

- evaluate the influence of number frames being processed on summarization quality

Note: Since MAPCA's MPEG decoder is expected to decode the GOP enclosing the target, the I-frame-only environment (mentioned in proposal) is  not considered.

Developed the software to perform user study
Defined the approach for comparative evaluation of ranking techniques against user defined ground truth
