This page contains driving directions for the main conference venues
and check-in information for people staying at the residence halls.
Driving Directions
The campus is located on US Route 1 (also called Baltimore Avenue) in
College Park. The most common access to campus is by taking Exit 25
from the DC Capital Beltway (I-495) to US Route 1 (south). The campus is
located about 2 miles south of the Beltway on the right. It is a large
campus, there are four major entrances, and the layout is notoriously
confusing for visitors. If the directions below fail, please consult the
following
campus map.
Note that taxi and shuttle-bus drivers will usually know where the
campus is, but it is a good idea to specify “University of Maryland,
College Park” to avoid confusion with other campuses. Most do not know
how to get around the campus, and so you will likely need to convey the
following directions.
- Driving to Van Munching Hall (Conference
Meeting Rooms):
- The conference meeting rooms are in
Van Munching Hall.
Parking is available in the adjacent
Mowatt Lane Parking Garage
for $2/hr and up to $10/day maximum. Assuming that you are coming
to the University from the north along US Route 1, drive past the
campus. Just south of the campus are the restaurants and strip
malls of College Park. Turn right at a traffic light onto Knox Road.
After passing some student apartments, at the first stop sign turn
right onto Guilford Road. Follow the signs to Visitor Parking, and
turn right into the Mowatt Lane (ML) Parking Garage. Van Munching
Hall is to the left (northwest) of the garage.

- Driving to the Riggs Alumni (Sunday Evening Welcome Reception):
- The welcome reception Sunday evening is in the
Riggs Alumni Center.
Assuming that you are coming to the University from the north along
US Route 1, take the exit onto Route 193 (University Blvd) west. At
the second traffic light turn left onto Stadium Drive. After a few
hundred feet, bear to the right at the traffic circle. The Riggs
Alumni Center is on the left just beyond Byrd Stadium. After 4:00pm,
it is possible to park for free in either of the large nearby
parking lots 1b or Z.

- Driving to the Golf Course (Tuesday Evening Conference Banquet):
- The conference banquet Tuesday evening is at the banquet
facilities at the
University Golf Course.
Assuming that you are driving from the Mowatt Lane Parking Garage
near Van Munching, exit the garage and turn right onto Mowatt Lane.
On coming to a small traffic circle, go ¾ of the way around the
circle, thus turning left onto Campus Drive. At the second traffic
light turn right onto Adelphi Road and bear right almost immediately
onto Route 193 east. (This large divided road is not marked, but you
will see a sign to “Event Parking”.) Once on Route 193, turn left at
the first traffic light onto the Golf Course Road. (Do not confuse
the University Golf Course with the Paint Branch Golf Complex, which
is further to the east on Route 193.)

Checking-In at the Residence Halls
- Annapolis Hall:
- To check in for the Residence Hall Housing, your first stop is
as the Hospitality Desk in Annapolis Hall. Assuming that you are
coming to the University from the north along US Route 1, drive past
the main entrance (Campus Drive), and continue along Route 1 through
two more traffic lights until coming to Regent's Drive at the third
light. Enter the campus by turning right onto Regent's Drive.
Annapolis Hall will be the first parking lot on the left. There are
a limited number of metered spaces in this small lot. If they are
all used, there are additional metered spaces further up the road.
