Air Travel

College Park is close to three major airports that serve the Washington DC area, so there is a good chance that you can find cheap or convenient flight connections.

Be sure to think ahead about your ground transportation options. Washington DC is trying to challenge Los Angeles as one of the most congested cities in the nation, and rush-hour travel in particular can be rather a pain.

Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

Reagan is located in downtown Washington DC. Frequent flights, mostly from the eastern US. There is a good Washington DC Metro connection between DCA and College Park, but flight prices tend to be higher for this airport. Taxi service to College Park costs approximately $40.00. Super Shuttle is also a convenient option. Price $28 + $10 per additional person.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)

BWI has mostly domestic connections, but with a few direct international connections, e.g. to the UK. It often offers the cheapest flights, since it is a hub city for the discount carrier Southwest Airlines, which generates fierce price competition. There is a regular $2 Metrobus service from BWI to the Greenbelt Metro Station, which is only one stop away from College Park. Taxi service to College Park costs approximately $55.00. Super Shuttle is also a convenient option. Price $28 + $10 per additional person.

Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Dulles is the main international hub in the region, with direct connections from throughout the US, Europe and Asia. Ground transportation to College Park is least easy from Dulles, however. Options are taxi or shuttle van (International Express Shuttle, Super Shuttle), or bus-and-metro combination. The Washington Flyer bus regularly connects Dulles to the West Falls Church stop on the Orange Line of the Washington DC Metro. Taxi service to College Park costs approximately $65.00. Super Shuttle is also a convenient option. Price $28 + $10 per additional person. Another option might be to take a cab to the closest metro station (West Falls Church, Orange Line).

Train

AMTRAK offers train service to Wasington-Union Station, DC (WAS), or New Carollton, MD (NCR).

From either station you can then take the Washington DC Metro, or a taxi to College Park.

Metro

If you arrive at the College Park Station on the Green Line of the Washington DC Metro, you can take a cab or a short walk to the Quality Inn (5-7 minutes) or take the free Shuttle-UM shuttle bus to the University of Maryland campus. The shuttle bus stops directly outside the Stamp Student Union, the main conference venue for CUNY 2004. See key conference locations on this map.

Road

Here are some driving DIRECTIONS to campus. And here is a link to a PDF Campus Map, since the on-line version appears to be currently broken. The UM campus is on US Route 1, just 5 minutes drive from the intersection of I-95 with the Washington DC Beltway (I-495).

If you come by car, there are three parking alternatives:

Parking Garage 1 (also known as Union Lane Parking Garage) is located directly across from the Stamp Student Union, the location of all conference events. Parking in this garage costs a maximum of $8 per day.
Parking on the roof of Parking Garage 2 will be free throughout the conference. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Stamp Student Union, and is located on the corner of Regents Drive and Presidents Drive, very close to the "M" rotary at the center of campus.
Parking in Lot 1, also about a 5 minute walk from the Stamp Student Union, will be free throughout the conference. It is a very large parking lot, located on Presidents Drive, west of Stamp Student Union.
